Ron Corrado embodies what touch football is all about -- having fun. And helping others discover this great league." He's also very modest. Of his nearly 20 years in TFBC, Ron says "It was a lot of fun and I played a lot of games... we weren't too serious... we had to go to work the next day." Ron joined the league in 1978 after seeing an ad on Sportspage; he and a few friends formed the Sun Devils in Rec. The Sun Devils would become the Schooners and nearly 20 years later Ron would retire in Intermediate with the Shark Club. Along the way he would play in 3 Intermediate Canadian Championship games. The first being in 1985. Two years later they would win the Single A Championship game in Halifax. It was bitter sweet in that In order to give back to the sport he loved Ron became the intermediate Co-orodiantor in 1986, and in 1989, with the encouragement of Paul Benwick [See Paul Benwick ] would run for and become the President of TFBC. His major challenges were growing the league and "putting out fires here and there". He would also coach a team in the under 15 touch football league formed by Paul and Sid Hutchinson. Today Ron coaches high school football. |

Rapid Ronnie was a very heads up player and even better President. Enjoyed my time both playing against him, officiating his team's games as well as working with him on both the Executive and Touch Bowl 86 Committee. Ron, Ray Pardy, other team members and I became friends, which made refereeing their games a even more of a challenge due to the fact they were a perennial top calibre team in both Premier Rec, which then become the Intermediate Division to align ourselves with Football Canada. Ron, so enjoyed playing,...in one memorable Fall Provincial Championship game playing for the right to the Touch Bowl Nationals and an expense paid trip, Ray Pardy fired a Singer sewing machine (aka threading the needle) pass between 2 defenders out stretched arms for a TD with Ron quipping, "There are the boarding passes". I always seemed to be assigned the Intermediate Championship games resulting in doing many of their games, including several across the country at the Nationals. I always worked so hard never to be the goat on any play, as these games were always so highly competitive, with often one play being the difference. Ron, you were fun to play against, watch and work with. Congatulations.
